town manager provided some
information of layoffs (on the town side) for 2004 given that state
aid drops by 10%. This might be optimistic. There
would be a total of 14 actual layoffs. The dramatization of the
layoffs would have made one think that the end of the world was
at hand. Pretty pitiful.
It's interesting that the town manager referred to eliminating
six unfilled positions as layoffs.
In 2002, we had 2,273 full/part time employees.
After 2004, we might have about 2,200 employees.
He reminded the Board of Selectman
that they can still vote to place an
override on the ballot for the
April town meeting..
