Major Quasi-Independent State Agencies
The purpose of this page is to provide some sense of the size of these state agencies
that operate in Massachusetts.

I provide you with a limited historical view of revenues, expenditures and assets.

You would expect agencies

to have significant real estate assets since they constitute a major portion of the state
infrastructure.

While the Mass Pike and MWRA are relatively independent in terms of financial
self-sufficiency, the MBTA is very reliant on the state's General Fund for subsidies.
The MBTA only collects about one third of its revenues from its customers.
Overall, the quasis seem to add about about three ($3) billion dollars to state revenues and costs.

The Mass Lottery seemlingly giveth what the MBTA taketh. For historical purposes, I've duplicated the Mass lottery numbers.
