The vehicles owned by the Town of Framingham have been involved in 160 accidents in two years.  An average of one accident every three and a half days. The DPW owns two thirds of the 335 vehicle fleet.

The town has a $2,000 deductible. The town earmarked $300,000 for insurance in 2003, a $100,000 increase from the previous year. The bids from insurance companies range from $610,000 to $800,000.

In 160 accidents, I suspect that there is already a trend in terms of who is a bad driver. I suggest drug testing on those individuals.

I'll take a stab as to why we have all these accidents. The town employee is thinking, "Hey, it's not my car.  I don't care." We've all seen how police officers take care of their cruisers in "Cops".  I wonder how many of our police cruisers are involved in accidents.

The town manager, George P. King, Jr says that they will hold people accountable and offer driver education.  Will this involve letters of reprimand and two weeks of paid administrative leave?
